Accustomed to livening up the nights of the trendiest clubs on the planet, from Ibiza to Miami via Paris, it was in front of one of the biggest crowds of his career that the French DJ launched the first of his three consecutive concerts, Thursday evening, at the Stade de France.

At 58, the producer no longer needs to share the bill with anyone to fill the venue: the 240,000 tickets for the three dates were sold just for him. A series of concerts that he described as one of the “important moments of his life” at the Parisianjust before kick-off.

After a first part provided by the Dutchman Armin van Buuren, David Guetta appears at 9 p.m. under a shower of fireworks. Installed on an advanced platform seeming to float above the crowd, he performed the songs that marked his rise. From early successes like “Love Don’t Let Me Go”, “The World is Mine” or “Love Is Gone” to the global hits which marked the end of the 2000s.

The Parisian public was also treated to some distinguished guests. After inviting the Black Eyed Peas to a concert in Marseille last year, it’s Jennifer Lopez’s turn to ignite the Parisian public. The American singer appeared on stage to perform “Save Me Tonight”, their collaboration released in March, before offering a version of her hit “On The Floor”.

A few minutes later, rapper Akon took over. The American-Senegalese singer made the Stade de France roar with “Sexy Bitch”, one of David Guetta’s biggest hits, but also with his own hits “Smack That” and “Right Now (Na Na Na)”. Visibly moved, the DJ said to the crowd:

“Thank you Akon for changing my life”

Equally intense emotion when the concert ends with images of him, a young DJ. “I started being a DJ when I was 14 years old here in Paris in my bedroom, year after year you followed me and tonight it’s a dream, together,” he explains.

“I hope you had a wonderful evening. Thank you very much to everyone, it was incredible, I took this opportunity to tell my partner that I love her, to my 2 year old son who came to see me for the first time! Paris thank you very much, I will never forget.”

A sentence that sums up the evening quite well. Because beyond the fireworks and the surprises, David Guetta above all celebrates a career which has lasted for more than a quarter of a century and which, clearly, has still not said its last word. All that remains now is to find out what new prestigious guests the superstar has in store for his spectators, this Friday and Saturday evening. (mbr)
