The Pont-l’Abbé media library is closing its cultural season in June 2026 with an exhibition and events dedicated to the history of cinema and the origins of the moving image. From moving shadows, through articulated books and pop-ups, to puppet theater and pre-cinema machines such as the thaumatrope and the praxinoscope, the interactive exhibition “Visual Féérie”, designed by the company Via Cane, illustrates as much the magic of the image on our imaginations as the evolution of techniques which led to current cinema on the big screen.
From shooting to film music
On the program of activities: “Stop motion”, a workshop led by the artist Caroline Bizien, will allow you to learn about frame-by-frame animation, mixing shots and plasticine characters, on Wednesday June 10 at 2 p.m., for an audience aged eight and over. On Saturday June 13 at 4 p.m., the astonishing destiny of Marie de Kerstrat, pioneer of cinema and relatively unknown, will be sublimated by the historian and storyteller Serge Duigou (for all audiences). Film music is not forgotten, with a quiz on Wednesday June 17 at 4 p.m., hosted by Thierry Zorn, radio presenter, followed by a snack, for ages eight and over. To close this highlight, a “Cinema Paper” workshop will allow you to discover the beginnings of the animated image and its famous machines, on Wednesday June 24 continuously and on June 27 at 2 p.m., a reading café to discuss between adults about cinema in the literature.
