The cultural issue was at the heart of the most lively discussions at the municipal council on June 5.
Mayor Pascale Bordes confirmed the abandonment of the project to acquire the walls of the Casino cinema while announcing a reduction in the programming of La Pyramide.
Concerning the cinema, the City had been studying the possibility of buying the building for several months. An operation that the new majority ultimately decided not to pursue.
According to Pascale Bordes, the purchase would have represented an investment of around 800,000 euros excluding deed costs for a building which would require significant work.
“The building does not meet PMR standards. We would still have to invest between 500,000 and 600,000 euros to transform it,” she explained.
The mayor also highlighted the absence of parking and the constraints linked to the purpose of the building, exclusively dedicated to cinema activity.
She also indicated that a buyer of the business was studying the possibility of a future larger complex as part of a project linked to the ANRU.
“Spending a million and a half euros on a premises that we don’t know what to do with next is not reasonable while it’s 34 degrees in the classrooms,” said the elected official.
This decision sparked the reaction of former deputy Christine Muccio, who defended the record of the previous team in terms of investments and energy renovation.
Neuf spectacles supprimés à La Pyramide
The municipality also confirmed a reduction in La Pyramide programming.
Nine shows from the 2026-2027 season, which had not yet been contracted, were withdrawn.
According to the figures put forward by the mayor, these representations would have cost 172,000 euros for maximum revenue estimated at 116,000 euros, i.e. a potential deficit of 56,000 euros.
The Ben Mazué show was notably cited as an example. Its total cost would reach 145,000 euros for around 60,000 euros of expected revenue.
“This does not mean that there will be no more shows in Bagnols,” assured Pascale Bordes. “We simply want programming adapted to the financial capacities of the municipality. HAS”
The majority thus affirm that they want to preserve the cultural offering while adapting it to the current budgetary situation.
