In each 40-minute episode, three duos compete in three thrilling events. Like picking flags hung on the faces of a cube perched 15 m high; identify (blindfolded) living “creatures” (snails, mice, toads, cockroaches, earthworms) placed in an Elizabethan collar while strapped to a dentist’s chair; or indulge in stunts between two cars suspended 12 m in the air. THE stunts change from one episode to another.
The winning team of the first challenge obtains an advantage for the second, at the end of which one of the pairs is eliminated. The winning duo of the last duel wins the sum of $5,000, to be donated to a cause of their choice.
Fear Factor Célébrités counts on invested participants, generous in emotional reactions, who make us experience a real competition. Comedian Mariana Mazza, content creator Catherine Peach and businessman Olivier Primeau, each flanked by a parent, break the ice. No one will be surprised to learn that Mariana Mazza and her mother Sonia shout and persist more loudly than the others, while Catherine Peach and her father Richard are impressive in their composure, agility and speed. The outcome of the Primeau father-son tandem’s game is also surprising, for entirely different reasons.
As in any good concept of the genre, the scenes involving altitude or insects are always very rich in juicy moments. While Mariana Mazza compares the passage of critters on her face to a venereal disease, Catherine Peach finds that the sensation evokes that of a facial massage…
Fans of this type of reality TV will be happy to learn that a second season has already been ordered.
