Tarasque, music, costumes… The 5th Provençal Week ends for the schoolchildren of Raphèle-lès-Arles

Traditions were honored at the Louis-Pergaud school in Raphèle-lès-Arles, on the occasion of the 5th edition of Provençal Week from May 25 to 29.

Among the highlights of this event, the Félibrige capoulié Paulin Reynard visited the establishment on Thursday May 28 to meet and discuss with students from all classes, on the origin of Félibrige and the Provençal language.

The schoolchildren were also surprised to have a visit from the Chevalier de la Tarasque, Christian Guiot. The latter explained to them the history of this order created in 1474 by Roy René, and presented the various games of the time: the game of the cord, the sturgeon, the brush…

The children were delighted to have been able to approach, touch and even put their hands in the mouth of the Tarasque without any risk.

In the afternoon, Mr Fabre, representative of the Saint-Éloi de Mollèges association, presented this tradition. He notably presented the men’s outfit or the collar of draft horses, and some students were even able to try the traditional whippers’ whip.
