There are confessions that make you both laugh and think. Invited by Cyril Hanouna on the set of All beautiful, all new this Tuesday, June 2, Vincent Lagaf’ chose to speak the truth about an era that he describes today without complacency, the one where he reigned over TF1 with The Bigdil and where he was, in his own words, “the highest paid entertainer in Europe“. A golden period, but also a period where he recognizes having lost his sense of reality. “I sent ch** everyone. I only did what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it.”he blurted. No false modesty, no showmanship, just a man looking back and not really liking what he sees.
The story that particularly caused a reaction on stage was that of the Jaguar dealership. Lagaf’ enters the dealer with the idea of buying an XK8. He was told to wait six months. His reaction? Buy four cars at once to speed up delivery. “I’ll take the XK8, the XKR and the two over there. I’ll give you the check right away, I want them at 4 p.m.”he said to the salesman, as if ordering four Jaguars in one sentence was the most natural thing in the world. Estimated invoice: environ 400Â 000Â euros. “Today, I’m not proud of it. Frankly, I say to myself ‘what a stupid idiot I was'”he admits without hesitation.
But that’s not all. In the process, he says he bought a large boat whose construction required two years of waiting. Solution found on the spot: take another “waiting for”. When the seller asks him what he wants to call it, he answers “Waiting for”. The set laughed and so did he! Behind the tasty anecdote, there is the portrait of a man who simply no longer had no concept of the value of money. This is where the confidences take a slightly more serious turn.
“I never said that, because it weighs on me”
The one who always dreamed of presenting Koh Lanta took advantage of the opportunity to release a story that he had kept to himself for years. A memory he says he “his pèse“ and we understand why. Back when he owned this famous boat, he used to jump on his jet ski as soon as the skipper took the helm and sail solo behind the ship. One day, he did it alone, in the open sea, without warning anyone. “The jet-ski broke down. Not only did the boat arrive in Corsica, but it hit everything in the middle”he explains, aware today of the real danger he had taken.
“In the name of all sailors, I apologize for doing such stupid things.“he concludes, halfway between humor and real shame. What is striking about these confessions is the lucidity with which he delivers them. No excuses, no “it was another era” convenient. Vincent Lagaf’ fully assumes: “I was an obnoxious rich kid.” Six words, clear and honest.

At 64 years old, Vincent Lagaf’ seems to have made peace with what he waswithout trying to rewrite history. This ability to look at himself unvarnished, with so much self-deprecation, is perhaps what ultimately makes him even more likeable today than at the time when he bought four Jaguars at once so as not to wait!
