Cinema attendance reached 14.97 million admissions in May 2026, up 33.2% compared to May 2025, according to forecasts published by the CNC. Since January 1, 77.10 million entries have been recorded, an increase of 20.6% over one year.

Over the first five months of the year, American films are slightly ahead of French productions, with 45% market share compared to 44.4%, indicates the CNC.

The theatrical offer is also increasing with 51 films released for the first time over the four weeks of May 2026, compared to 47 a year earlier, or 13 new releases per week on average (12 in May 2025).

Over the period, 25 French films and 5 American films were released, compared to 26 and 3 respectively in 2025.

Côté box-office, Michael (released April 22), takes first place for the month. Three other American films appear in the top 5: The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2nd, released April 29), Super Mario Galaxy movies (4th, released April 1) and Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu (5th, released May 20). The only French film in the ranking is Just an illusion (3rd, released April 15). The first European film is British, The Criminals (17th, released May 6), and the first non-European and non-American film is Korean, The World of Love (43e, sorti no 6).
