The temperature has returned to bearable levels and it is less urgent to look for cool places to take a breather. We can nevertheless return to the Rex cinema, which will present some great offerings this weekend. First of all, Friday June 5 at 9 p.m. and Monday June 8 at 2:30 p.m. “Algiers (196 meters)” by Chakib Taleb Bendiab, film screened as part of the Regards sur le cinema alg©rien festival. The action of this thriller takes place in the heart of Algiers, nicknamed “the White” because of its dazzling facades. A psychiatrist, Dounia, teams up with Sami, an inspector charged with investigating the kidnapping of a little girl. And the demons of the past will resurface.

The next day, June 6 at 6 p.m., another sensitive subject, slavery, as part of “Memory Month: cinema and slavery” on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Taubira law recognizing slavery as a crime against humanity. The Rex cinema offered a retrospective of three films, and the last screening of the series, “12 Years a Slave” by Steve McQueen, will be preceded by an intervention by the Rex team. We follow Solomon Northup, a young black man kidnapped and sold into slavery, who fights to stay alive and maintain his dignity in the face of the cruelty of a cotton plantation owner.
