The highlight of this event: the exceptional screening of the documentary “1936, the Popular Front between joy and anger”, on Sunday June 7 at 5 p.m., in the presence of its director Fabien Béziat. This new 1 hour 40 film retraces the history, hopes and social conquests of the era thanks to remarkable work of rare and restored archives. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director around the legacy of this major political movement. This special session is organized in partnership with France Télévisions.
A militant work
The cycle will continue with the screening of “La Belle Équipe” on Thursday June 11 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday June 16 at 6:30 p.m. Directed by Julien Duvivier and directed by Jean Gabin, this classic of French cinema tells the story of five workers at unemployed people who decide to build a tavern together after winning the lottery. Filmed in 1936, the film perfectly reflects the popular enthusiasm and collective hope of the time.
Finally, “Life is Ours”, by Jean Renoir, will be screened on Friday June 19 and Tuesday June 23 at 5 p.m. A true militant work, this committed film highlights worker struggles, solidarity and the mobilization of intellectuals and artists against fascism, in a period when culture occupied a central place in the public debate.
