Vueling, a subsidiary of IAG, has reached a new milestone in its digital strategy by launching a completely free onboard entertainment service in Paris on March 18, 2026. This portal can be accessed directly from passengers’ personal devices (smartphones, tablets, computers) throughout the journey.
Unlike services that require paid Wi-Fi, this platform operates through a direct connection to the onboard server. This system allows passengers to enjoy content without the need for an external internet connection. Deployed on over half of the fleet, the service includes cinema and series options, real-time flight tracking, and digital access to onboard menus, shops, and company network information.
In addition to this offering, Vueling has partnered with Viasat to provide 15 minutes of free internet access on a large portion of its fleet through the European Aviation Network. This experience extends beyond landing with direct integration with GetYourGuide, allowing travelers to book excursions and activities directly from the portal mid-flight.
Melanie Berry, Vueling’s Chief Customer Officer, emphasizes that this initiative aims to offer more opportunities to enjoy onboard time through a simple and accessible interface.
This launch confirms a shift in the traditional low-cost model towards a hybrid model termed “LCC+.” By providing free entertainment that is typically reserved for traditional carriers, Vueling aims to retain a leisure-oriented clientele increasingly demanding in digital comfort.
The strategic aspect for industry professionals lies not only in the complimentary entertainment but in the integration of GetYourGuide. By capturing passenger attention during the flight, Vueling optimizes its ancillary revenues while positioning itself as a key contributor to destination activities. With over 225,000 flights operated in 2025 and a strong digital foundation, the company demonstrates that onboard innovation has become a crucial profitability lever alongside ticket prices.
