Singer Véronique Sanson, aged 77, was urgently hospitalized “for an acute respiratory infection” leading to the cancellation of his concert on Saturday at the Art Rock festival in Saint-Brieuc in Brittany, AFP learned on Saturday May 23 from the artist’s press service.

Singer Jeanne Cherhal will perform in her place on the Main Stage, the festival announced in a press release. “The one who covered Véronique Sanson’s first album during a previous tour, will do us the honor of playing a few pieces from the icon of French song, in a wink”added the Art Rock festival teams.

Véronique Sanson was to begin her summer festival tour. The other concert dates in Hauterives, Albi, Vence, Surgères and Orange, in June and July, are maintained, according to the press release from the 96B agency.

Successfully treated for amygdala cancer in 2018, the singer, author and composer confided in September 2025 to the show Seven to Eight broadcast on TF1 that she was having more and more health problems.

“I hurt everywhere, I have osteoarthritis in my hands, arthritis and it hurts when I play the piano” et “it’s not meant to work out”she explained.

Hospitalized for pneumonia in April 2024, Véronique Sanson had to cancel a concert at the Zénith in Nantes. The artist, who has rocked generations with her unrivaled husky vibrato since the 1970s, a time when female authors-composers-performers were few in number, signaled the end of yéyé with her first album. In lovewhen she was 22 years old.

In the wake of the revolution led by the Beatles, she made French resonate like Anglo-Saxon pop, thanks to her unique phrasing and her piano flights.
