On May 7, the Les Lauriers Roses nursing home, located in Soler, welcomed a group of 3rd year students from the Jules-Verne college for a very eclectic concert under the sign of “living together”.
On a beautiful spring day, the Les Lauriers Roses nursing home, located in Soler, resonated with music and applause. Residents who attended the concert given on May 7 by 3rd grade studentse at the Jules-Verne college rediscovered a little of their twenties when the repertoire, of good eclecticism and sure taste, swept away almost sixty years of songs.
This intergenerational project, placed under the sign of “living together”, was initiated in 2021 by Sarah Abdelhamid, professor of musical education. The objective: “that this project is based above all on the desire to create a link between students and residents”.In fact, a connection was spontaneously created between our elders and youth 2.0 through several styles and musical trends, some of which, fortunately, have freed themselves from the passing of time and resisted all fashions. Obviously, the teacher’s project was strongly supported by the management of the two establishments concerned.
D’Edith Piaf à Dua Lipa…
On May 5, 2026, the students proposed several standards of French song (Édith Piaf, Joe Dassin…) and pop titles (Michaël Jackson, Dua Lipa…). “Complemented by guitar compositions beautifully performed by two students in the class”, specifies Sarah Abdelhamid, adding “the young people showed themselves to be particularly involved and were warmly congratulated for the quality of their performance.” For their part, the residents were encouraged to participate by singing verses or choruses in chorus, which they did with visibly a lot of pleasure and enthusiasm!
But above all, through this intergenerational rapprochement, the “Living Together” project illustrates all the richness of sharing and highlights kindness, a sense of service towards vulnerable people, and also respect of young people towards their elders.“Our two establishments, engaged in this partnership, promise other wonderful moments of exchange and memories to share between college students and residents”announces the initiator of these meaningful meetings.
