IN BRIEF • Heidi Klum marked the 2026 Met Gala with a marble statue costume, following the theme « Fashion is Art ».
• His costume was created by Mike Marino, and took five hours to install on the star.
• The makeup artist specializing in special effects is already behind many of the former model’s Halloween disguises.

This is called taking the theme literally. Like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Sabrina Carpenter, but also Bad Bunny and Madonna, Heidi Klum walked the steps of the most fashionable of New York dinners, this Tuesday, May 4: the Met gala. And this, in a quirky costume, of which only the queen of disguises has the secret.

The former star model appeared before the eyes of photographers disguised as a marble statue. Yes, the same kind of Greek or Roman sculptures that you can find while walking the corridors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the dress code of the event being linked to the subject of her next fashion exhibition.

Baptisée Costume Artthis must explore the links that unite clothing to the body, in all its forms. The guests of the evening were tasked with dressing according to the theme. Fashion is Art. « Fashion is an art, art is fashion: yes, yes, yes », s’est emballée Heidi Klum sur le tapis rouge.

His costume is inspired by two works of art: The veiled Christa marble recumbent figure by Giuseppe Sanmartino dated 1753; And The Veiled Vestal Virgina masterful sculpture by Raffaele Monti, which he erected with his own hands in 1846. “I’m all softreassured Heidi Klum, questioned by Cara Delevingne and Ashley Graham on the red carpet. But it’s a little hot. »

It is to Mike Marino that she owes this latex outfit, firmly attached to her face. The American makeup artist, who apparently also painted the star’s hands and feet under her veil in a mineral white, is not unknown: it is to him that we owe most of Heidi Klum’s disguises for her Halloween evenings.

Three times nominated for an Oscar for his work on several films (including The Batmanfor which he portrayed Colin Farrel as Penguin), the makeup expert, for example, transformed her into Medusa, during his last “Heidiween”. For the Met Gala, putting together the custom outfit took nearly five hours.

Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Madonna…

A subject of discussion, she is however far from being the only one to have shone. If Bad Bunny, like her, focused on the make-up (him, as an old man), Beyoncé, Rihanna, but also Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter or even the entire Kardashian clan, have honored their presence in looks inspired by the history of art or the relationship with the body.

The stars came together at the initiative of the popess of fashion Anna Wintour who, for this 2026 edition, had also invited as honorary president a most contested guest: Jeff Bezos, announced as the main financier of the charity dinner alongside of his wife, Lauren Sánchez.

If their presence caused a lot of ink to flow ahead of the festivities (to the point of having sparked an unprecedented call for a boycott), the evening was devoid of any political message, unlike other years. Nothing, absolutely nothing, from outfits to statements.

While a few demonstrators gathered near the museum, some of whom brandished the message in giant cut-out letters « Tax the Rich »the billionaire close to Donald Trump, for his part, carefully avoided the photographers and the traditional climb of the steps.
