The Point d’Appui film series has been successful this season 1! How do you explain it? Maurizio Coppola: The success is difficult to explain, but we gladly accept it! Let’s say that the formula proposing to approach cinema from an anthropological point of view, that is, through the prism of cultural science, otherness, and the difference of the other, has been well communicated.

Point d’Appui: How did the idea of this series come about? M.C.: It is part of the legacy of the “La philo à l’écran” series. Like philosophy, anthropology offers a perspective on films, which in turn allows for a deeper exploration of questions that are seldom addressed in public debate. Anthropology brings rigor to the treatment of these questions.

Point d’Appui: Who is it intended for? M.C.: It is aimed at a wide intergenerational audience, adults, and adolescents from high school onwards. It is a total experiment because this kind of initiative does not exist in the academic environment. It is a real exchange between the speaker and the audience, where the status of each is erased in order to give and receive, to move away from stereotypical ideas!

Point d’Appui: Tania, what motivates you to participate in the Ciné anthropo sessions? Tania Duffaut: A loyal viewer at the Halle des Épinettes, especially thanks to “La Philo à l’écran,” I am delighted to once again enjoy sharing a film and then discussing various themes in a warm atmosphere.

Point d’Appui: Your favorite film from this first season? T.D: I really enjoyed “La Notte” shown at the beginning of February. I had never seen this film despite my admiration for director Antonioni. The discussion led by Azadeh Dalir was very interesting. And I will definitely not miss “Mission.”

Point d’Appui: Any desires for the next season? T.D.: It would be to see “Les Ailes du désir,” one of my favorite films, again. The thematic richness of Wim Wenders’ films would undoubtedly offer an exciting debate!
