The new face of the City of Saint-Brieuc, in the Côtes-d’Armor region, is characterized by his mustache and smile. 30-year-old Victor Bonnot, a native of Trégueux, has been a resident of Saint-Brieuc since his school days.

During his studies, he was noticed by the LR senator Alain Cadec. He has since worked in both the private and public sectors, in France and in Europe, including at the office of Christophe Béchu at the Ministry of Local Authorities. He was working at the National Agency for the Cohesion of Territories before becoming the mayor of Saint-Brieuc.

His priorities include opening up the city by creating more parking spaces, improving mobility for pedestrians, cars, bicycles, and public transport. He also aims to enhance security by appointing a dedicated deputy, installing more surveillance cameras, arming municipal police officers, and ensuring the safety of the police station.

In terms of finances, his focus is on understanding the city’s budget situation and finding ways to do more with less. He plans to hold public meetings in each neighborhood to discuss these issues.

When asked about Saint-Brieuc, Bonnot expressed a sense of pride. He highlighted the Valais cabins as a place that reflects his personality and a childhood memory of the Saint-Michel fair. Describing the residents in three words, he chose “proud, humble, and audacious.”

Bonnot’s personal habits include starting his day at the Town Hall and enjoying a cup of coffee upon arrival. He finds solace in discussions with his partner and listens to music by Sade, Kartell, and Massive Attack along with techno to relax.

In terms of entertainment, he prefers political thrillers by Costa-Gavras and the book “Nous Autres” by Russian writer Yevgeny Zamyatin. When decompressing, he turns to reading.

Looking ahead, Bonnot aims to maintain accessibility, enthusiasm, and humility throughout his term. He wants to show that politics is for everyone and hopes to leave a legacy of inclusivity and sincerity, emphasizing that the political arena should have no barriers or prejudices. Reflecting on his journey, he advises his younger self to stay focused on his goals.
