Where to go out this weekend in Toulouse and surroundings? Between sheep transhumance in northern Toulouse and experimental music at the Halle de la Machine

This long weekend of May 1st is conducive to nature getaways to follow the transhumance of sheep in northern Toulouse, as well as free museums on Sunday and many activities, including puppet shows and experimental music.

Transhumance of sheep

On Sunday, May 3rd, starting from 6 am, 330 sheep will depart from Villeneuve-lès-Bouloc for a 17 km transhumance that will pass through seven communes in northern Toulouse: Villeneuve-lès-Bouloc, Gargas, Labastide-Saint-Sernin, Montberon, Saint-Loup-Cammas, Saint-Geniès-Bellevue, and Launaguet. The arrival of this 9th edition of the Grande Transhumance will be at the Launaguet castle around 11 am, where the herd will remain in pasture until the end of May.

A gourmet village will be set up in front of the castle with on-site dining, the opportunity to buy local products, and a picnic area. Various activities are planned: wool spinning demonstrations, musical entertainment with a folk group, wooden games, and a “Draw me a sheep” activity. These Tarascon sheep will continue their transhumance from June onwards to Bourg-d’Oueil in the Haute-Garonne Pyrenees, where they will descend in September for lambing.

Exhibition “From Picasso to Warhol”

Starting this Friday, the Lauragais Space in Saint-Orens-de-Gameville is hosting the exhibition “From Picasso to Warhol, masters of the 20th century”. 150 original works, five major movements (cubism, surrealism, abstraction, new realism, and pop art), an educational tour to see and understand Picasso, Warhol, Dalí, Kandinsky, Vasarely, César, Niki de Saint Phalle…

Prints, lithographs, serigraphs, sculptures, posters, and archives come from private collections of the Les Amis de 349 Gallery association network based in Beauzelle. Alongside the tour, several contemporary painters, sculptors, and engravers present their creations at dedicated stands.

From May 1st to 10th, at the Lauragais Space (Rue des Sports) in Saint-Orens-de-Gameville. Open every day from 10 am to 7 pm. Friday, May 1st: 4 pm to 8 pm. Sunday, May 10th: 10 am to 6 pm. Rates: €8, free for under 18s.

New adventures of Guignol

Guignol and his steadfast gendarme are back at the Jardin des Plantes in Toulouse with always humorously conflicting adventures, now updated with personalized greetings by Mickey and an appearance at intermission by Chase from Paw Patrol.

An interactive show, both modern and traditional, where children participate in the story’s development. Photos are provided for those wishing to take a picture with the mascots. Anyone presenting this article at the show’s entrance will receive a €1 discount.

Until Sunday, May 10th, every day at 4 pm with an additional session on Sundays at 11 am, at the Jardin des Plantes in Toulouse. Duration: 50 minutes. Price: €9 from age 1.

Free museums and monuments

As on the first Sunday of each month, public or municipal museums and monuments are free for all visitors. An opportunity to discover or rediscover the heritage and architecture of Toulouse museums through their permanent exhibitions. Temporary exhibitions remain paid.

The museums and monuments concerned and open to the public are: cloister des Jacobins, Les Abattoirs museum, Augustins museum, Saint-Raymond museum, Museum of Natural History, Quai des Savoirs, Paul-Dupuy museum, gallery of Château d’Eau, and Saint-Joseph de la Grave chapel. The Georges-Labit museum remains closed for renovations.

Music at the Halle de la Machine

The percussion, violin, trombone, and trumpet classes of the Maurice-Ravel Bayonne Regional Radiation Conservatory will take over the Halle de La Machine in Toulouse on Sunday.

The hundred musicians will present a program based on an experimental setup they have created themselves: luminous percussion, atomic violins, funk and rock pieces, contemporary and percussive compositions, and more.
