In 1975, Nathalie Baye acquired this residence, which is now forever her lost paradise. At 27, thanks to a small inheritance, the actress bought this stone house with green shutters for a “bargain.” For nearly thirty-three years, it was her peaceful haven. Her friend of many decades, the writer Jean-Marie Chevrier, recalled, “She fell in love with this land and loved this unchanging countryside, sheltered from the world, which has not changed since the beginning of time.”
Nathalie Baye gradually settled in the Creuse house with the help of her movie earnings, turning it into her dream place. She merged into the local lifestyle, befriending residents, and hosting famous guests like France Gall, Michel Berger, and Christophe Lambert.
However, why did Nathalie Baye eventually give up this beloved home? According to Jean-Marie Chevrier, “Nathalie thought Laura would come to the Creuse, but for a teenager, the countryside doesn’t appeal that much. So, this house no longer had a reason to exist. She went to the order of Ré to somewhat follow the trend because everyone in Saint-Germain was going there.”
In 2022, Nathalie Baye sold her property to a South African woman for 600,000 euros. Since then, the house has been abandoned, consumed by ivy, left untended and unrestored. Baye herself expressed regret over selling it, unable to understand her decision, reflecting on the weight of memories associated with the place.
Now that Nathalie Baye is no longer there, the revival of the Vallièvre house becomes increasingly unlikely, as the municipality struggles to obtain updates from the buyers.
