A big surprise was in store for The Voice judges for this Saturday, April 25th prime. For this final blind audition night, Nikos Aliagas traded his hosting role to become a contestant.
Accustomed to supporting talents backstage, he found himself under the spotlight this time. With a mic in hand, he took part in the iconic blind auditions, a hallmark moment of the show.
The coaches, unaware of the switch, didn’t take long to recognize the voice of the man who has been hosting the show for 15 years. There was a slight doubt at the beginning though. Amel Bent asked: “Is it Garou or Nikos?”, while Lara Fabian had already pressed her buzzer.
“I’m so nervous, it’s not possible”
All the chairs turned for Nikos’ rendition of Georges Moustaki’s song “Métèque”. “But he sings well!”, exclaimed Zazie, who joined her friend Florent Pagny for the evening. “It’s just, it’s beautiful”, he added.
“I’m so nervous, it’s not possible”, the presenter uttered before stepping on stage. And added: “I don’t regret being here but I’m freaking out. I swear, I’m freaking out” The host admitted: “I’ve experienced almost every position and scenario in this show, but not this one.”
On social media, some wondered about Nikos’ role in the upcoming stages of the competition: “Will he have to do battles against other talents now?” The presenter will not overshadow the talents as this “audition” was not a real part of the competition, but rather a staged act to surprise the coaches and viewers on the occasion of the 15th edition.
