It’s finally the end of the Warner Bros. Discovery saga. As a reminder, Netflix had formalized an agreement to acquire this company in December 2025. However, following counter-offers from Paramount Skydance, Netflix decided not to overbid. Consequently, Warner Bros. Discovery ultimately signed an acquisition agreement with Paramount Skydance for 110 billion dollars. And, this Thursday, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that Paramount Skydance’s offer has been approved by its shareholders.
“According to the preliminary results of the vote at today’s extraordinary meeting, WBD shareholders overwhelmingly approved the adoption of the merger agreement with Paramount,” states WBD in its press release. Indeed, Paramount Skydance’s offer was too significant to be refused. Now, the ball is in the regulators’ court, who will need to validate this transaction. In any case, WBD believes the deal could be finalized in the third quarter of 2026.
The merger will create an entertainment giant
This merger will combine two powerful entertainment companies, including major franchises like Harry Potter, Mission Impossible, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, or the DC universe. The combination of Paramount Skydance and WBD will also create a new empire in the media world, as well as a significant blend of sports rights in the United States. Moreover, in terms of streaming, it will place the Paramount+, HBO Max, and Pluto platforms under the same entity.
“We will retain our two studios while prioritizing the recruitment and retention of world-class creative talents to strengthen our ability to produce a wide range of high-quality content, including 15 feature films per year and per studio, destined for our combined platforms and our third-party distribution partners,” Paramount also indicated in February regarding cinema.
