Just days after hundreds of thousands of people rushed to buy tickets for her residency at La Défense Arena, Céline Dion released a new song.
While fans who were unable to get a ticket for Céline Dion’s grand return to the stage are still drying their tears, the Quebec superstar unveiled a new single last night, Dansons, written by Jean-Jacques Goldman. Here’s what the critics are saying.
Published this Friday at midnight on streaming platforms, this highly anticipated track is not new: it was written in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
If its slow, melancholic, very soft, almost cottony rhythm won’t shock the familiar ears of Goldman fans, the critics, however, seem taken aback. Unveiled exclusively to the press four days before its official release during listening sessions with a confidentiality agreement and confiscation of phones, the song has sparked mixed reactions.

«Esthetically close to a soap opera theme song, somewhere between Nana Mouskouri and Barbra Streisand, Dansons is so out of this world that it is fascinating», notes Le Monde in a half-hearted review.
«The unfortunate fans who lost out in the ticket raffle at the ticket fair will not be comforted by this meager prize that is Dansons»
Regarding Le Figaro, it strictly describes the song, without giving a very clear opinion. Just the French daily concludes by stating that: «The melody is catchy, but the languid tempo will not make it a radio hit or the locomotive of a hypothetical upcoming album.» Hmhm…
Le Parisien, on the other hand, is convinced and enthusiastic: «(…) from the very first seconds of Dansons, we find the Céline Dion we love, sensitive, delicate, on this ballad with simple production, no chorus.»
Similarly, the Devoir praises pure Céline Dion: « In short, Dansons is Céline Dion, purely and simply, no more no less.»
An appetizer for the lucky ones attending Céline Dion’s residency in Paris next autumn, a small consolation for the others, Dansons will at least have the merit of pleasing the die-hard fans of the Canadian diva. And after so many years of absence, that’s all we wish for them.
