Here is some exciting news for fans of Games of Thrones. Seven years after the end of the series, inspired by George R. R. Martin’s literary work (which is still unfinished), a film is currently in preparation at Warner Bros. So far, not much is known about this project except for its title, which is provisional: “La Conquête d’Aegon,” as announced by Warner Bros. at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The writer for this film is Beau Willimon, known for works such as films like “Les Marches du pouvoir” and “Marie Stuart, reine d’Écosse,” as well as the series “House of Cards” and several episodes of “Andor.”

The film is said to focus on Aegon I, the first lord of the Seven Kingdoms and founder of the Targaryen dynasty – the royal family central to the saga. This will be the first time Aegon I will be portrayed on screen. It is too early to know the cast or director for the film, and the release date is uncertain, but it is expected to be after 2027.

Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Games of Thrones has been and remains a cultural phenomenon. The conclusion of the series in 2019, after eight intense, thrilling, and bloody seasons (with a divisive ending), did not mark the end of the journey. Instead, the franchise has continued through two spin-off series that continue to captivate HBO audiences.

House of Dragon, set 200 years before Game of Thrones, has already aired two seasons, with the third set to arrive in June 2026 and a fourth – the final season – already planned. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set around 90 years before Game of Thrones, was quietly renewed for a second season in January 2026.
