War in Ukraine: Jordan Bardella wants to help kyiv, but without “sending it the money that France doesn’t have”

This first payment of just over 3 billion euros should take place in mid-June, the European Commission announced on Wednesday. In total, 90 billion will be allocated to Ukraine by 2027, for its arms supplies and its current budgetary needs.

“Modèle pas tenable”

Except that “this new financial commitment […] is not financed and will not be, because Ukraine will never be able to repay this loan,” declared Jordan Bardella in an interview with the newspaper “Le Point”. However, France will have to contribute to the tune of “18 billion over two years”, calculates the president of the RN, who wonders “how France intends to finance aid to Ukraine today”, given its budget deficits. “France’s specialty is spending money it doesn’t have. This model is not sustainable,” he insists.

“Helping Ukraine, yes”, but “we do not want to send to Ukraine the money that France does not have and which is sorely lacking to finance its own economy”, summarizes Jordan Bardella, without specifying what form the aid granted to kyiv would take if the RN came to power next year. “If a number of states in Europe wish to send weapons and funds to Ukraine, that is their complete freedom. On the other hand, when this aid is secured from the European budget, the question arises,” he continues, pointing out in passing “the abysmal level of corruption in the Ukrainian regime.”
