The appointment of Emmanuel Moulin, former director of the Treasury, was confirmed on Wednesday despite the unfavorable vote of 54% of parliamentarians (58 votes against, 52 for), insufficient to hinder his appointment.

The National Rally deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy questioned on Thursday the appointment of Emmanuel Moulin at the head of the Banque de France, seeing it as a strategy of “institutional locking” worn by Emmanuel Macron before the next presidential election.

“We had the Court of Auditors where MadameAmélie de Montchalin close to Emmanuel Macron and outgoing minister, was appointed. And now the Banque de France, which has responsibilities for analysis and support for businesses and households.”declared the deputy for Somme on France 2.

“European monetary policy has strong implications for national economic policyâ€

The appointment of Emmanuel Moulin, former director of the Treasury, was confirmed on Wednesday despite the unfavorable vote of 54% of parliamentarians (58 votes against, 52 for), insufficient to hinder his appointment. Three-fifths of the votes cast would have had to go against him.

Jean-Philippe Tanguy questioned Emmanuel Moulin’s competence for the position, believing that he was “responsible for the famous 40 to 60 billion euros in revenue forecast errors” who led “to the worst deficits of the Fifth Republic outside the crisis, in 2022, 2023 and 2024”. The parliamentarian also insisted on the European implications of the appointment.

“The voice of France in Frankfurt, at the European Central Bank, will be carried by Mr Moulin, therefore very close to Emmanuel Macron”he said, believing that this “poses a problem since European monetary policy has strong implications for national economic policy”. Before returning to the ambitions of the RN of «renegotiate a number of European standards or regulations». On the procedure, Tanguy admitted that «la Constitution a été respectée»but asked a question“public ethics”. “When you are in the minority in Parliament, the least you can do would be to leave”he estimated.
