Skies are clear out there this morning as high pressure drifts through, keeping winds light and allowing temperatures to drop into the 40F's for some of us. Despite a chilly start, Friday will be a tad warmer, with highs topping out in the low-mid 70F's areawide. Winds will be on the breezy side, out of the west between 5 to 15 mph.

There continues to be a consistent signal for low pressure to pass by to the north Friday afternoon & evening, bringing the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms back into the forecast. Cloud cover will increase throughout the morning, with the best chances for rain arriving early afternoon, lasting through the early evening. Geographically, the best chances for rain will be closer to the Mississippi River, and not everyone is expected to see rain in general.
There is the outside chance of a stronger storm or two, especially closer to Rochester, the Twin Cities and Preston. Two things going against any stronger and more organized storm activity will be the lack of moisture and instability overall, with dew points only climbing into the low-mid 50F's. Despite this, wind shear is quite stronger aloft, leading to a 1 out of 5 risk of severe weather across portions of Southeastern Minnesota and Northeastern Iowa. If any storms become severe, hail and gusty winds are the primary concern.

High pressure moves in Friday night into Saturday, clearing skies and keeping winds on the lighter side. Plenty of sunshine is currently expected through Saturday afternoon, with highs topping out in the mid-upper 70F's!
Cloud cover increases again Saturday night into Sunday, with winds shifting to out of the east/northeast. Another area of low pressure is expected to approach from the southwest Sunday morning, and bring a chance of rain with it. However, dry air from the northeast will likely make it difficult for rain to make it much further north than the Minnesota & Iowa border.
With that said, while there is the chance for showers Sunday, not everyone may see this rain. There will be a good deal of cloud cover regardless, making Saturday the pick day of the weekend. Highs Sunday will also be slightly cooler, in the lower-70F's with easterly winds between 5 to 10 mph.
