A Mumbai-based startup founder’s decision to bring a 64-year-old intern on board has drawn widespread attention online, with many social media users praising the role experienced professionals can play in mentoring younger teams.
The discussion began after founder Joshua Salins shared a video on Instagram showing the senior intern interacting with employees at the startup’s office. In the clip, younger team members are seen listening as he speaks and shares his experiences.
Text displayed in the video described the intern as a source of “priceless knowledge” on building and scaling companies, while also highlighting his contribution to workplace culture and team motivation.
“We just got a 64 year old intern in the office and it’s the best decision we’ve made,” Salins wrote while sharing the video.
The appointment prompted questions from social media users, with one person asking why the man had joined the company as an intern.
Responding to the query, Salins said the man wanted to remain active professionally and continue sharing his experience. “cause he wanted to keep working and didn’t want to just sit at home. Also he has so much knowledge to give when he can so helps out alot !” he wrote.
The explanation resonated with many users, who said experienced professionals can continue to make meaningful contributions in workplace settings.
Among the reactions, one user wrote, “Wow, the movie brought to life. Love this.”
Another commented, “Absolutely beautiful. Being an emotional person, I got teary-eyed… Loved this concept, loved that you involved an experienced man with tonnes of years of bringing something to the table. loved how you guys are supporting. Kudos man! Keep shining.”
A third user said, “Honestly, between me and me, he’s the cooler intern by a long shot.”
The video has also sparked conversations about how startups can benefit from combining youthful energy with decades of professional experience.
