The G7 will be held this Monday, June 15 until Wednesday, June 17, in Évian-les-Bains. The heads of state of the seven greatest Western powers will be gathered. On occasion, a colossal security system will be put in place at all levels: land, sea and air.

All eyes will be focused on Évian-les-Bains for three days. For good reason, the leaders of the seven greatest world powers will all be gathered in the same place from this Monday, June 15. The city will be a point of high tension.

France therefore deployed major resources on all fronts and crisscrossed the city and surrounding areas with a security system. Regarding land security, 7,160 police officers are mobilized, including 260 motorcyclists. On the gendarmerie side, 6,100 personnel are active, including 200 motorcyclists.

Road control is ensured by 830 personnel mobilized in particular at the borders, including 205 as part of the Rapid Intervention Border Force. The protection of civilians is ensured by nearly 1000 actors including 600 firefighters from the Haute-Savoie department.

Air and lake security

The French air forces will collaborate with Switzerland with the support of drones. Three zones have been defined: a prohibited zone and two regulated zones. The maritime space is not left out with more than 30 boats from all forces: 23 from the national police, five from the gendarmerie and the rest belonging to the armies. 900 soldiers are also lending a helping hand in the three zones.

According to the prefect of Haute-Savoie, Emmanuelle Dubée, it is a question of coping “to the risk linked to the extremely tense international context”au “terrorist risk which remains major in France”au “risk of sabotage and cyber attack”, but also “trouble à l’ordre public”reports AFP. This Saturday, June 13, a gendarmerie motorcyclist died and two others were injured in a road accident in Haute-Savoie, on the sidelines of the G7, “in circumstances which remain to be established”, said a spokesperson for the national gendarmerie.
