Near-record heat Monday with isolated afternoon storms

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

If you’re hoping to catch the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch this morning out of Cape Canaveral, look to the northeast shortly after 6 a.m. The rocket launch is targeted for 6:13 a.m., partly cloudy skies will make it harder to see from the Gulf Coast. Conditions will be favorable with dry weather and morning lows in the 70s.

We’re in store for near-record heat Monday afternoon with highs in the mid-90s. With high humidity factored in, it will feel as hot as the triple digits.

Isolated showers and storms will develop late into the afternoon and work toward the coast. The best chance for storms will be in Collier County for the late afternoon and evening. Lows will drop into the mid-70s overnight.

Deep tropical moisture will return on Wednesday, ramping up storm chances for the second half of the week. While no one day will be a washout, many afternoons will feature scattered storms near the coast. The biggest threats will be heavy rain and lightning.
