First Alert Weather Day: Heavy rain, localized flooding still possible

Wednesday remains a First Alert Weather Day as showers and thunderstorms continue moving through the area, with the greatest coverage expected later today.

Gallipolis: Hazmat response after chemical incident at water treatment plant

A hazmat team responded to a chemical incident at the Gallipolis Water Treatment Plant Wednesday after an odor was reported.

Officials say crews were called around 11:24 a.m., and an evacuation was ordered for the immediate area near Chestnut Street and Smithers Avenue as a precaution.

Update

Gallipolis Fire Chief Keith Elliott said a very small chemical spill occurred at the plant, though it was still unclear what chemicals were involved. The evacuation order was lifted and residents were allowed to return, according to the Gallia County EMA.

Officials say the incident did not impact water service and there is no hazard to the water supply. No injuries were reported.
