Two people died in a fire Saturday morning in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, the New York City Fire Department said.

The FDNY said it responded to the fire on the second floor of a three-story apartment building on Nostrand Ave., between Beverly Rd. and Cortelyou Rd., just before 7 a.m.

Two civilians were pronounced dead and two others were hospitalized with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.

Neighbors said a mother and her adult son were killed.

Cellphone video from a witness shows flames shooting out of the second-floor windows, as FDNY said the fire quickly spread to the top floor and roof.

People who self-evacuated when they smelled smoke said they went outside and saw chaos.

“Flames were shooting out, literally, from this window right here, almost touching the tree. That’s how accelerated those flames were,” said Rich Savaille. “Luckily, the fire department came within two minutes and was able to extinguish it, but it was crazy. The flames were really, really intense.”

The fire was under control in less than an hour, the FDNY said.

About six hours earlier, firefighters were called to an apartment fire on West Tremont Ave. in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx, where officials said one person was pronounced dead and two suffered minor injuries.

Both deadly fires are under investigation.Â
