President Trump stated on Friday that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping achieved “fantastic trade deals” and expressed a mutual desire to resolve the U.S.-Iran conflict at the recent summit in Beijing. Both nations are aiming to portray the visit as a success and maintain a stable relationship following last year’s trade dispute.
The two leaders met at the Zhongnanhai Garden compound in China for a bilateral meeting, where they enjoyed tea, strolled through the gardens, and had a lunch featuring various dishes. While President Trump praised the trip as “incredible,” he did not provide specific details on trade agreements reached, although China agreed to purchase American planes and agricultural products.
In addition to trade discussions, both leaders emphasized their shared stance on Iran and the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz. President Xi is expected to visit the U.S. in September, further indicating the strong relationship between the two countries.
The U.S. and China also explored forming a “Board of Trade” to oversee commerce and investment between them. The talks covered topics like trade, Iran, and Taiwan, with President Trump highlighting the constructive nature of the discussions.
Amid efforts to stabilize their economic ties post-trade war, business executives like Elon Musk and Tim Cook offered positive feedback on the meetings. Xi raised concerns about the Taiwan issue during the talks, warning of potential conflicts if not handled properly.
President Trump’s state visit included a banquet and musical performance, with plans for Xi to visit the White House in September. The U.S. president postponed his earlier visit to China due to the conflict with Iran.
The visit concluded without a planned press conference, but Mr. Trump may address reporters on the plane. Overall, the visit aimed to strengthen ties and address key global issues between the U.S. and China.
