SAN ANTONIO – Honking Spurs fans damaging their cars after big wins

San Antonio is known for fans honking in celebration after a Spurs victory, but some are finding that this tradition is leading to costly car repairs.

Kaidon Mattison experienced this firsthand after honking his horn following the San Antonio Spurs’ recent win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. “It was my first time honking, got about halfway through Commerce Street, and my horn just gave out on me,” he shared.

Other fans have reported similar issues with their car horns, prompting concerns among automotive experts like Erik Garcia Jr., owner of Erik’s Automotive. Garcia explained that the forceful honking can damage components in the steering wheel, risking overheating the circuit.

While repairs can be completed in as little as an hour, costs can vary from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on the extent of the damage. To prevent further harm, Garcia advised fans to avoid excessive honking and seek professional help if the horn malfunctions.
