Weather: First Alert for morning showers, isolated afternoon storms

A cold front moving through the Mid-Ohio Valley is bringing showers during the Wednesday morning commute, with a break around lunchtime before isolated afternoon thunderstorms develop (higher chances in West Virginia). Highs are expected to top out near 69 degrees in Parkersburg.

New Vienna river access point aims to bring residents closer to the Ohio River

Vienna is nearing a major milestone on a riverfront access project on 12th Street, designed to create an ADA-compliant path to the water along with a kayak launch. Mayor Chad Emrick said the plan was scaled back to fit grant funding, with total costs coming in around $370,000, and the city covering the match portion. Construction could be mostly finished in about 30 days, with landscaping to follow.

Motorcycle safety urged as summer riding season ramps up in Washington County

As more motorcycles return to the roads, the Ohio Highway Patrol is asking riders and drivers to slow down, stay alert and avoid distractions. Lt. Coy Lehman said many local motorcycle crashes are single-vehicle wrecks tied to speed, and he noted State Route 555 is a hotspot. Joint safety details are planned for July 18 and Aug. 22, along with Motorcycle Ohio safety courses.

Found a baby animal? West Virginia officials say leave it be

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is reminding people to leave young wildlife alone, saying many animals that look abandoned (like fawns or fledgling birds) are often behaving normally. Officials warn handling animals can harm them, spread disease, and that possessing wildlife without a permit is illegal, with potential fines and jail time.

Marietta Aquatic Center prepares for summer season

Marietta leaders say the Aquatic Center is gearing up for summer with updated hours (noon to 7 p.m.), a revised fee structure, and a move to cashless payments. The city is also expanding options like private party rentals on Friday and Saturday nights and adding an attendance tracking system. The pool is set to open May 25, with daily admission $8 for youth and $10 for adults.
