The US and Iran were reportedly close to a peace deal on Thursday, as per Pakistani officials. However, tension escalated when the US military and Iranian forces clashed in the strait of Hormuz.

Both sides accused each other of initiating the conflict, with US Central Command claiming to have responded to “unprovoked Iranian attacks” with “self-defense strikes.” Iranian officials alleged that the US breached the ceasefire by targeting two ships at the strait of Hormuz and attacking civilian areas.

In an interview with ABC News, Trump described the US strikes as “just a love tap” and maintained that the ceasefire was still in place. He later acknowledged the incident in a Truth Social post, mentioning that while the three US Destroyers were unharmed, significant damage was inflicted on the Iranian attackers. Trump’s post also included colorful language, likening the downing of Iranian drones to a butterfly dropping to its grave.

Trump concluded his post with a warning to Iran, asserting that they would face more severe consequences in the future if a deal is not swiftly reached.
