Apple announced on Monday that John Ternus will become the new CEO, taking over from Tim Cook on September 1. Cook will transition into the role of executive chairman, concluding his successful 15-year tenure as one of the top technology CEOs.

“I have been honored to lead such an extraordinary company,” Cook expressed in a statement. He praised Apple’s innovative and dedicated team for their commitment to enhancing customer lives and creating exceptional products and services.

Incoming CEO Ternus, who has been part of Apple’s design team since 2001, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to advance Apple’s mission. Apple credited Ternus as an instrumental figure in product development, including the iPhone and AirPods.

Throughout Cook’s leadership, Apple’s shares surged over 1,700%, positioning the company as the third most valuable public entity globally, after Nvidia and Google owner Alphabet. Despite the CEO transition, Apple’s shares experienced a marginal dip in after-hours trading.

Cook assumed the CEO position in 2011 following Steve Jobs’ passing, where he played an integral role in bolstering Apple’s global supply chain. Under Cook’s management, Apple expanded its services portfolio and pursued innovations like artificial intelligence, despite facing challenges in adoption and delays.

Apple’s recent collaborations with Google’s artificial intelligence technology showcase its efforts to enhance AI capabilities. The company also grappled with the mainstream adoption of its VisionPro headset and navigated political challenges, notably with the Trump administration.

As Cook transitions to executive chairman, he is expected to maintain engagement with policymakers globally, reflecting his role as Apple’s ambassador. Despite obstacles faced during Cook’s tenure, Apple’s financial performance remains robust, showcasing resilience in the face of challenges.
