From July 3 to 11, the Une salle sous les étoiles festival will once again take over the Vauban site of the University of Nîmes. For its sixth edition, this summer event dedicated to open-air cinema has chosen a simple theme, family. A family in the plural, as the organizers remind us. Blended families, broken down families, mafias are featured in the films presented this year.

“It’s no longer a partnership, it’s family”launches Friday morning Benoît Roig, president of Nîmes Université, which is hosting the Une salle sous les étoiles festival on the Vauban site for the fifth time. On the menu, The Addams Family, Parasite, Mommy, Little Miss Sunshine, The Secret of the Chickadees, The Test and even The Godfather, screened during the closing evening. A classic whose poster largely inspired that of the festival this year.

Created six years ago, the festival takes place in the moat and courtyard of the Vauban site. Every evening, the public can attend screenings, concerts, shows, participate in cinema workshops, discover the artists’ market or even enjoy the games bar, the refreshment bar and the restaurant set up on the site. And since there will be a lot of talk about family this year, the festival also has its sponsor. Gustave Kervern will be the guest of honor for this sixth edition. The actor, director and screenwriter will present Cigarettes and Hot Chocolate on July 4 alongside director Sophie Reine. In this film, he plays a father who raises his two daughters alone.

A day dedicated to children

Another new feature of this edition, Monday July 6 is dedicated to children from the Nîmes leisure centers. Nearly 185 young spectators have already registered. They attend the screening of The Prophecy of the Frogs before participating in a workshop on animation and a discussion time devoted to the film.

Opening night, July 3, opens with The Addams Family and its tribe as eccentric as they are out of control. Before the screening, the troupe Elles improvisent! presents a show whose themes are chosen by the public. Later in the week, director Antoine Lanciaux accompanies Le Secret des mésanges, while Chloé Jouannet presents her short film Allez ma fille before the screening of the Test. Every evening, the Vauban moats also host concerts, shows, dubbing, filming and editing workshops, artists’ market, games bar and entertainment. The Drôois studio Folimage will also be in the spotlight this year. In addition to The Prophecy of Frogs, several short films from its workshops will open the festival screenings. The festival will also serve as the setting for Casting Sauvage, the series by Nîmes director Nathanaël Tisseyre, several episodes of which will be filmed on site during the event.
