The Louis Vouland Museum invites the public to “Rendez-vous aux jardins” on June 6 and 7, with workshops and extended exhibitions. (139 characters)
As summer approaches, the Louis Vouland museum in Avignon deploys a rich and varied cultural program, inviting visitors to an immersion in art and nature. The month of June will be marked by the national event “Rendez-vous aux jardins”, creative workshops, the extension of its successful exhibitions and new thematic visits, confirming the dynamism of this institution installed in a 20th century private mansion.
A sensory weekend for “Meet you in the gardens”
On Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the museum will participate in the national event “Rendez-vous aux jardins”, this year under the theme of “THE VIEW”. The public is invited to a sensitive experience in this urban garden, a refuge of the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) since 2021. Visitors will be able to walk, sit, observe and even close their eyes to feel the unique atmosphere of this place which hides the old Canal de Vaucluse and was once part of the Dominican convent. The objective is to offer a new perception of this space where biodiversity is preserved.
Workshops for all tastes
Several specific activities will punctuate this first weekend in June. On Saturday, June 6, a “bicycle!” picnic will be organized from 1 p.m. for participants who have reserved. The museum, labeled “Accueil Vélo”, will make its garden, located near the Via Rhône, available to park bicycles in complete safety. Workshop visits entitled “Observe” will be held on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m., inviting young and old (from 7 years old) to sharpen their gaze on the fauna and flora of the garden.
The highlight of these days will be the Chinese calligraphy workshop led by the painter Ji Dahai, on Sunday June 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Originally from Beijing and living in Provence since 2005, the artist will introduce a small group of 10 participants to this ancestral art. Reservations are essential for this special meeting.
Extended exhibitions and new schedules
Faced with its success, the museum is extending its two temporary exhibitions. “It looks like the South!”, which brings together works by artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, is renewed with a particular focus on the painter Eugène Martel (1869-1947), who will be in the spotlight throughout the years 2026 and 2027. The exhibition “Resurgence”, the result of a collaboration between the painter-calligrapher Ji Dahai and the poet Claude-Joël Meffre around the sources of Mont Ventoux, is also maintained.
Accompanied visits to these exhibitions and the garden museum are scheduled for Wednesday June 10 at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday June 13 at 2:30 p.m. Finally, the museum will adopt its summer hours from Saturday June 20, opening its doors from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (except Mondays).
