The new album “is a true sequel and is very faithful to the adventures of Little Nicholas “, indicates Aymar du Châtenet. It is co-written by Anne Goscinny, writer and successor to her father René, and Jean-Philippe Arrou-Vignod, author of several children’s albums. It is illustrated by Fursy Teyssier, who “succeeded in capturing the style and spirit of Sempé’s drawing”, according to the publisher.

After a few aborted attempts, the series took off in 1959 in the Sunday edition of Southwestthe daily newspaper based in Bordeaux. It was then published in collections, selling around 20 million copies worldwide, where it was translated into around forty languages and idioms, according to Aymar du Châtenet.

In 1965, despite the success, Goscinny decided to stop the adventures after more than 222 short stories. Unpublished episodes were then published in the 2000s by Imav, a publishing house created by Anne Goscinny and Aymar du Châtenet which today publishes all of the albums of the Little Nicholas. Four films, including one animated, and two television series have helped to establish the popularity of the young hero.

According to Sempé and Goscinny, “Little Nicolas is timeless because, when we created him, he was already out of fashion.” Parents remember him with nostalgia and today’s children recognize themselves in his world,” underlines Aymar du Châtenet.
