In Jerusalem, Argentine president Javier Milei declared that the war led by the United States and Israel against Iran was “the right thing to do”. He specifically mentioned that the Argentine government attributes two attacks that occurred in Argentina in the 1990s to Iran.

Argentine President Javier Milei, currently on a visit to Jerusalem, stated on Sunday, April 19, that the war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran was “the right thing to do”.

“We have expressed our strong support for the United States and Israel in their war against terrorism and the Iranian regime, not only because it is the right thing to do, but because our countries are brothers in suffering,” said the head of state, while a ceasefire has been in effect since April 8 with Tehran.

“Argentina has been a victim of cowardly terrorist attacks” at the beginning of the 1990s, “both orchestrated by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added in a joint statement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Bombings in Argentina attributed to Iran by the Argentine government

Argentine justice attributes to Iran the planning of the attack on the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) in 1994 and holds the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement responsible for the attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992. The perpetrators of these two attacks remain unpunished.

>”To this day, we continue to demand justice,” emphasized Javier Milei.

The Israeli Prime Minister praised the “moral clarity” of the Argentine president, who stands with Israel, the Jewish people, and opposes “anti-Semitic slanders”.

Under the Milei government, Argentina has declared the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Quds Force, one of its operational arms, as “terrorist” organizations.

Agreements between Argentine and Israeli governments

Javier Milei also reiterated his intention to transfer the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem, similar to what U.S. President Donald Trump did during his first term in 2018, considering it a “necessary, but above all just” measure.

The status of Jerusalem is one of the most contentious issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and almost all countries with formal diplomatic presence near Israeli authorities have their embassy in Tel Aviv.

During this third visit since taking office in December 2023, Javier Milei signed agreements with the Israeli government to strengthen bilateral relations.

These agreements, known as the “Isaac” agreements, are expected to expand to other Latin American countries, as Benjamin Netanyahu hoped during a signing ceremony.

Supported by Washington, they aim to strengthen diplomatic, commercial, cultural, and strategic ties with Israel and “to unite efforts in the fight against terrorism, anti-Semitism, and drug trafficking,” according to statements released by the Argentine presidency.

Javier Milei and Benjamin Netanyahu “closest friends of President Trump”

The U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, present at the ceremony, praised the two leaders as “two of President Trump’s closest friends.”

>”I know of no other leaders on our planet whom our president respects more and has a more personal relationship with,” said the U.S. Ambassador in Israel.

Javier Milei will light a torch in Israel on Independence Day, becoming the first foreign leader to do so.

Direct flights between Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv are set to be launched starting in November, according to an agreement signed on Sunday.
