PetroVietnam’s Plan to Ensure National Defense and Security
Based on the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State, PetroVietnam’s Party Committee has released a plan to implement Program 9 on national defense and security. The goal is to enhance coordination to protect oil and gas activities, while also contributing to national sovereignty at sea and ensuring national energy security. This includes synchronizing tasks related to national defense strategy in the new situation.
Exploration and exploitation of oil and gas at sea are essential for protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty and maintaining its economic presence. Offshore oil and gas installations have economic and strategic importance for national defense and security.
PetroVietnam works closely with authorities to ensure the security of oil and gas infrastructure while maintaining fuel production and supply for the economy and national defense. The company adapts to global energy market changes to ensure a continuous oil and energy supply for societal needs and national energy security.
One crucial task is to strengthen coordination mechanisms with ministries, agencies, and functional forces to exchange information and ensure the security of key oil and gas activities and energy projects.
PetroVietnam also collaborates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide information on the South China Sea situation, participate in diplomatic activities and negotiations, and defend Vietnam’s legitimate interests in offshore oil and gas. The company continues geological exploration, research, and exploitation of oil and gas resources on the Vietnamese continental shelf.
According to the plan, PetroVietnam will collect additional seismic data in potential Vietnamese waters and study geological characteristics and oil and gas resources for long-term energy development. Research programs will be implemented step by step until 2030.
PetroVietnam is also attracting strategic partners for exploration in deep offshore zones to enhance Vietnam’s economic presence in strategically important maritime regions. The company is working on cooperation plans in the overlapping areas of the East Sea to ensure a harmonious balance between economic, foreign policy, and defense and national security interests.
In addition to protecting oil and gas installations, PetroVietnam is researching and developing energy products for national defense. The company will collaborate with relevant agencies to develop specific fuels and strategic energy products to ensure fuel supply for defense and national security. Research on new energy sources like green energy and sustainable energy solutions will contribute to economic development and meet daily and defense energy needs.
