OKLAHOMA CITY- (KOKH) – A new program is set to launch in Oklahoma schools, aiming to enhance students’ academic skills in math and science.

“We’re gonna coach them up in math and science after school in the evenings, two nights a week. Sort of like softball practice, but for the people that want to do that kind of practice up there,” said Po-Shen Loh, the founder of LIVE.

Through LIVE, high school math enthusiasts lead live streams to teach students. Loh explained that they are expanding the program in-person for students seeking additional academic challenges.

“We don’t always have time in the classroom to challenge the people who want more. We might use some of our time to go and help the people who are having some difficulty,” he said.

LIVE is collaborating with the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Foundation to introduce the program to Oklahoma schools and provide scholarships.

“We will offer at least two full scholarships to every county in the state of Oklahoma to participate in this live program for free, starting next January, January 2027,” said Tony Cornforth, President of the Oklahoma School of Science and Math.

Loh specified that the program will be available starting from sixth grade, and students will remain in the program for three years. Typically, the live program incurs a cost, with families living in affluent areas like Silicon Valley being the primary participants.

“And so I started this program to say, we’re already making money from people who have money, maybe we can play Robin Hood, why not? Where can we share this out so that education doesn’t become an elite game where people with money just help their kids get an advantage,” Loh remarked.

Cornforth noted that this fall, he will contact every sixth grade math teacher in the state regarding the partnership. The email will include a link for teachers to nominate students for the program.
