While the Music Festival is to be held throughout France this Sunday, June 21, Minister of Culture Catherine Pégard recommends caution when holding certain events. This Saturday, June 20, a ministerial meeting is planned, led by Sébastien Lecornu.
The Minister of Culture Catherine Pégard called this Saturday, June 20 for “extreme vigilance” in the face of the heat wave which is hitting France, while leaving to the prefectures and municipalities the decision to maintain or cancel the festivities of the Music Festival planned for this Sunday, June 21.
“There are certain concerts which, perhaps, will be canceled. I believe that we must be careful not to have too global a vision,” declared the minister on France 2, while 60 departments were placed on orange heat wave vigilance.
“We must study things on a case-by-case basis, places on a case-by-case basis”, and “refer to the competent services”, namely the prefectures and municipalities, according to her.
“But I believe that indeed, we must be extremely vigilant,” added Catherine Pégard, who is participating in a meeting of the interministerial crisis unit of the Ministry of the Interior around Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
Adapted opening hours in museums and monuments
The Minister of the Interior Laurent Nuñez assured this Friday that there would be “no general questioning” of the festivities planned for the Music Festival, while several cities have canceled them.
Catherine Pégard specified that the concert organized by the Ministry of Culture at the Palais Royal, in Paris, was being maintained “for the moment”.
“We are doing everything to ensure that it happens in good conditions: we are adding parasols, misters, we will distribute fans…”, according to her.
The minister indicated that certain historical monuments and museums were considering adapting their schedules or reducing the number of visitors to avoid queues outside.
