Heatwave and Music Festival: “we must be extremely vigilant” for the Minister of Culture

The Minister of Culture Catherine Pégard called, Saturday June 20, to “with extreme vigilance” in the face of the heat wave, while leaving it to the prefectures and municipalities to decide whether to maintain or cancel the Music Festival festivities, Sunday June 21.

“There are certain concerts which, perhaps, will be canceled. I believe that we must be wary of too global a vision.”declared the minister in the program Télématin on France 2Saturday, while sixty departments were placed on orange vigilance for heatwave. “We must study things on a case-by-case basis, locations on a case-by-case basis” and “refer to the competent services”prefectures and municipalities.

“But I believe that indeed, we must be extremely vigilant.”added Catherine Pégard, who will participate in a meeting of the interministerial crisis unit of the Ministry of the Interior around Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, at 11 a.m.

“Everything so that it happens in good conditions”

The Minister of the Interior Laurent Nuñez assured, Friday June 19, that there would be no “Pas de remise en cause” general of the festivities planned for the Fête de la Musique, while several cities have canceled them.

Catherine Pégard specified that the concert organized by the Ministry of Culture at the Palais Royal, in Paris, is maintained « pour l’instant ». “We are doing everything to ensure that it happens in good conditions: we are adding parasols, misters, we will distribute fans…”she added.

The minister also indicated that certain historical monuments and museums are considering adapting their schedules or reducing the number of visitors to avoid queues outside.
