The author of Persepolisthe autobiographical saga devoted to his childhood in Iran and his exile in Europe, died suddenly on June 4 at the age of 56. Among the stars present to pay tribute to the memory of the world-famous artist, actress Catherine Deneuve and her daughter Chiara Maistrosi appeared particularly upset. Like the Canadian actress last seen in the series White LotusCharlotte Le Bon, the columnist Enora Malagré, the novelist Tristane Banon, the president of the Île-de-France Region Valérie Pécresse, the columnist Sophia Aram, all present on this sad day.
The actor and singer Gwendal Marimoutou, the lawyer Stéphane Hasbanian, the Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani and the minister attached to the Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs, Alice Rufo, also made the trip to honor his memory. All these personalities were present to support both parents of Marjane Satrapi, which appeared particularly at the exit of Père-Lachaise. And if the heart was all the heavier on this Friday, it is because those close to Marjane Satrapi revealed that she was “died of sadness a little more than a year after the death of Mattias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life”.

Born in Sweden in 1972, this trained economist met Marjane Satrapi in Paris during a university exchange before marrying her for 31 years of a close life together. Mattias Ripa was essential in his wife’s work, acting in turn as financier, producer or co-writer. His death on April 8, 2025, at only 53 years old, broke the artist who had written on Instagram: “Because I lost the love of my life.” Her close friend, the sociologist Azadeh Kian, had confided to franceinfo that Marjane Satrapi was no longer the same since this tragedy. She often repeated: “I stop fighting and I want to leave”. Before passing away, however, she had achieved the creation of the « Foundation pour le cinema Mattias et Marjane Ripa-Satrapi » to support foreign students in Paris.
