From all-vinyl listening bars in Athens to audiophile cocktail lounges in London, a new wave of design hotels are making music the star, transforming lobbies, restaurants and basements into immersive spaces designed around analog sound, carefully programmed DJs and attentive listening.
Across the continent, a new generation of hotels is seeking to offer much more than just a place to sleep, by integrating musical programming into their services, driven by a growing number of travelers looking for sound experiences during their stays, including in dining and nightlife areas.
Leading the way is Okupa, the urban hub of Athens, which combines hotel accommodation, shared workspaces, a restaurant and a café.
Since its opening in 2024, Okupa has made music a central element of the experience offered to its customers.
At the heart of the venue is its Kitchen and Listening Bar, where there is a succession of live concerts, DJ evenings and Sunday jazz sessions every week, provided by a mix of local artists, vinyl enthusiasts and international musicians.
Since its beginnings, Okupa has considered sound as an very extension of hospitality and combines a careful musical program with a Levantine-inspired catering and cocktail offering, all complemented by a broader cultural program including exhibitions, workshops and movement classes.
Athens is far from being alone in offering this type of music-centered experience. Here are some of the best addresses to test the concept for yourself.
