The Belgians’ reaction was timid, with the exception of a good cross from Castagne for Tielemans (31st). The Egyptians easily approached Courtois’ rectangle. Fortunately, Attia’s shot was saved by a vigilant Courtois.
In stoppage time, a small throw-back from De Ketelaere for Doku allowed the Manchester City players to strike from the penalty spot, but the ball flew into the stands.
The second half did not start in the best of ways, with three Egyptian strikes blocked in quick succession as soon as they returned from the locker room. In the process, a free kick obtained by Doku at 20 meters offered a great opportunity to De Bruyne who hit Shobeir’s post.
In the 55th minute, Courtois very poorly repelled a header from Salah. Fortunately, Ashour was imprecise when he had a golden opportunity to make the break.
Rudi Garcia brought De Cuyper and Raskin up to replace Castagne and Onana (56th). And the Devils responded to the Egyptians with a superb volley from Tielemans which passed just wide (61st).
The Devils grew bolder but Egypt remained dangerous on the counterattack, like a Marmoush strike blocked by Ngoy, who came to die right next to Courtois’ goal.

Romelu Lukaku works miracles without even touching the ball
Romelu Lukaku replaced De Ketelaere in the 66th minute and forced the equalizer in the following seconds. Tielemans launched Meunier deep and the Lille cross forced Hany to score against his side under pressure from Big Rom’ (1-1).
Brandon Mechele came close to 2-1 in the 81st with a nice cross header on an excellent serve from Tielemans but Shobeir relaxed nicely.
Rudi Garcia made his last two substitutions in the 86th: Fernandez-Pardo and Vanaken replaced Doku and De Bruyne. In the process, a superb cross from Raskin found the forehead of Lukaku but his recovery flew well above the goal.
In stoppage time, a free kick from Tielemans found Mechele at the near post but the deflection of the Bruges defender’s right foot was off target.
On the final Egyptian action of the match, Brandon Mechele made yet another saving defensive intervention and the score no longer changed: 1-1.
