Does the agreement between Iran and the United States signal the end of the rise in fuel prices in France? On Monday, Emmanuel Macron indicated, in an interview with TF1, that the government would “ensure” that the expected drop in oil prices was “well passed on to the pump”.

“It is in the coming weeks that we will have an impact on prices”, with a rapid decline in the markets but then, “for the supply chains to restart, it will take a few weeks”, warned the Head of State, on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

In May, French fuel consumption fell by 12% compared to May 2025, after a previous drop of 11% in April, according to figures from French Customs and communicated at the beginning of June by the Minister of the Economy. On that date, the price of SP95-E10 gasoline, the most consumed in France, stood at 1.987 per liter on average, 15.51% more than at the start of the war in the Middle East. Diesel, the most purchased fuel, was worth 2.039 euros per liter (+18.57% since February 27), according to an AFP calculation carried out on the prices reported by more than 7,000 stations on a government site.

“We defend international law and we will do everything so that there are no tolls” in the Strait of Hormuz, also assured Emmanuel Macron. According to the Iranian agency Fars, Iran added at the last moment of negotiations with the United States a clause providing for the imposition of fees for maritime services in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

“We have always maintained that we are not seeking to collect transit tolls, but that fees for navigation services, environmental protection, ship insurance and other necessary services would be charged,” said the spokesperson for Iranian diplomacy, Esmaïl Baghaï, during his press briefing weekly.
