From June 15, 2026, the Antibes museums will unveil two new exhibitions, one on a 17th century wreck, the other on Peynet.
The 2026 summer season promises to be rich in cultural discoveries in Antibes. The city’s Museums Directorate announced the simultaneous launch of two major new exhibitions, which will be held from June 15 to November 17, 2026. One will immerse visitors in the depths of maritime history, while the other will celebrate poetry and humor through the works of an artist emblematic.
Trésors d’une épave du 17ème siècle
The Archeology Museum, housed in the heart of the historic Saint-André bastion, will present to the public for the very first time the fruits of the underwater excavations of the wreck of the Brégantine. The exhibition, entitled “The underwater excavations of Brégantineâ€will highlight exceptional objects rescued from a shipwreck that occurred in the 17th century off the local coast.
This unique collection will offer a valuable testimony to life on board, commerce and navigation of the time. Visitors will be able to discover a rare archaeological heritage, meticulously preserved and studied, which tells a story submerged for several centuries. The event constitutes a unique opportunity to connect with the maritime past of the Mediterranean and the city of Antibes.
Peynet and the Lovers facing the sea
At the same time, the Peynet and Humorous Drawing Museum will offer a lighter and more romantic journey with its exhibition “Peynet and the Lovers at the Sea”. This retrospective will explore the intimate link between the illustrious designer Raymond Peynet, his famous Lovers and the marine world, an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Through a selection of drawings, often imbued with tenderness and gentle irony, the public will rediscover the iconic characters of the poet and his fiancée in beach, port and cruise settings. The exhibition highlights a facet of the artist’s work which particularly resonates with the identity and charm of the Côte d’Azur, offering a poetic and smiling escapade.
These two complementary exhibitions, although very different in their theme, testify to the vitality and diversity of the cultural offering of the Antibes museums for the coming season.
