During the municipal council of 1is June 2026the mayor of Barneville-Carteret (Manche), David Legouet, presented the project intended to maintain the La Plage cinema.

For 18 months, the promoters have been working on this issue with elected officials and Bruno Champalaune, manager-owner of the cinema. After several discussions, an agreement was proposed around a real estate project including twelve apartments et two cinema rooms.

Two rooms in a future residence

The project provides for the creation of two rooms: one of 108 placesthe other of 63 places. According to the elements presented to the council, this two-screen configuration is strongly recommended by the CNC for a municipality in this demographic stratum. A market study, entrusted to the Ciné Conseil firm, is in progress.

The other option would have been to buy the current room. But this solution would have required a upgradingas well as the creation of a second room.

According to David Legouet, the proposed solution is, in the long term, the least expensive and the most relevant. The mayor also recalled that, for a film with strong commercial potential, distributors request up to twelve performances. Two rooms would therefore better meet this requirement.

The municipality that owns the two rooms

The municipality will become propriétaire of the two cinemas for an amount negotiated at 700 000 euros HT. This price includes the entire second work.

It will then be necessary to finance the interior fittings: armchairs, screens, video projection devices and sound system. This equipment would represent approximately 200 000 euros.

David Legouet specified that this equipment should be 90% financed by the CNC and the Normandy Region. The remainder payable by the municipality would therefore be around 20,000 euros for this part.

Bertrand Ladune asked for details on the overall cost. The amount of 700,000 euros excluding tax represents 840,000 euros including tax, to which would be added the equipment. The mayor indicated that 40 to 50% of the Cotentin assistance funds would be requested.

A temporary room during the work

THE works could start in January 2027. During their duration, estimated at around 24 months, the Salle des Douits could be converted into a cinema hall, with the help of Bruno Champalaune.

David Legouet also works with the Agglomeration of Cotentin, which manages the Réville cinema. He asked that the public service delegation of Réville be extended to Barneville-Carteret.

Following a question from Pascal Cranois, the mayor specified that the entrance to the housing would be separated from that of the cinema.

La proposition a été validée à l’unanimité par le conseil municipal.
