International report: Israeli army responsible for half of world’s explosive weapons casualties in 2025
The Explosive Weapons Observatory has published its comprehensive annual report for 2025, revealing a heavy toll of civilian casualties due to the use of lethal weapons in armed conflicts around the world.
The report confirms that the Israeli army is at the top of those responsible for these civilian losses, attributing more than half of the deaths recorded worldwide to the use of explosive weapons, in particular due to the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian news agency “Palestine Today” on Friday.
According to statistics compiled by the Observatory, which brings together dozens of international non-governmental organizations, at least 22,600 civilians were killed or injured in 65 countries during the year in question.
The causes of these injuries are diverse: air strikes, drone attacks, explosions of antipersonnel mines and fragmentation munitions prohibited by international law.
The report highlights that Israeli forces are directly responsible for 56% of civilian deaths worldwide, a record figure that reflects the scale of violence perpetrated in the Palestinian territories.
Researchers noted that despite the ceasefire declared on October 10, 2025, the Gaza Strip remains the scene of almost daily Israeli air strikes, thus perpetuating the bloodbath.
Furthermore, the report presents alarming data on the targeting of children, citing reports from Save the Children confirming the deaths of around 20,000 children in Gaza since the start of the conflict in October 2023.
The report explains that the Israeli military has advanced its weapons of mass destruction using modern, destructive technologies, including explosive-laden robots and lethal robots targeting densely populated residential areas.
These violations are not limited to conventional bombings. The report also documents a dramatic increase in the use of drones to target shelters, with attacks on IDP camps in Gaza and the West Bank increasing almost fivefold.
The number of these incidents increased from 64 in 2024 to 303 incidents recorded in 2025, testifying to a systematic strategy aimed at terrorizing civilians fleeing death.
The report says the use of explosive weapons in populated areas systematically deprives civilians of essential services, with schools and hospitals being destroyed at an increasing rate.
