The head of Iranian diplomacy Abbas Araghchi assured a little earlier that an agreement with the United States had “never been so close” to put an end to this war triggered by Israeli-American strikes on February 28.
The head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araghchi, indicated this Friday, June 12 that the memorandum of understanding with the United States to end the war in the Middle East would be signed “remotely” once finalized, perhaps in “the coming days”.
“As soon as the final stages of our negotiations are completed, this agreement will be signed and announced. The signing will initially be done digitally. Each party will sign remotely.
Then, it will be announced that this memorandum of understanding has been signed by the two parties,” detailed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, interviewed by state television. “This could happen in the coming days. I am hopeful,” he added.
“This agreement has enemies, first and foremost the Zionist regime, which is looking for pretexts to derail it,” however warned the minister.
“The naval blockade must be completely lifted”
Earlier Friday, Abbas Araghchi assured that an agreement with the United States had “never been so close” to stop this war triggered by Israeli-American strikes on February 28.
In the same interview, the head of Iranian diplomacy declared that the draft agreement provided for the lifting of the American blockade of Iranian ports and a new management of the Strait of Hormuz.
“The naval blockade must be completely lifted. This is the first point mentioned in the agreement,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“Iran has made a firm decision that the administration of the Strait of Hormuz will no longer be the same as before,” he added. He specified that discussions were underway with Oman – the country located on the other side, south of the strait – about this strategic maritime route for hydrocarbons which had become, according to him, with the war “one of the main instruments of deterrence” of the Islamic Republic.
Tehran denies wanting to acquire a nuclear weapon
Finally, declared Abbas Araghchi, Iran recommends a dilution of the stocks of uranium enriched to 60% on Iranian soil, the destruction of which Washington for its part demands.
“Our position has always been that the only way to manage the stocks of enriched materials is to dilute them in Iran,” declared the Iranian minister.
Diluting uranium to a level below 5%, well below the 90% required to make an atomic bomb, would considerably reduce the threat of enrichment for military purposes.
Tehran denies wanting to acquire a nuclear weapon, as the United States and Israel accuse it of doing, and defends its right to civilian nuclear power.
